Becky Prior is taking part in a triathlon in May on behalf of BANA. Here she tells us why she is doing it.
Hi, my name is Becky and I am 20 years old and currently studying for a degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Southampton.
On May 2nd 2010 I plan to participate in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Triathlon in aid of BANA. The triathlon is a "sprint" distance, meaning that it starts with a 750m swim, followed by a 20km cycle and a 5km run. This will be my first triathlon race so am inevitably excited about the event and feel privileged to race to raise money for BANA.
The reason I am raising funds for BANA is that 15 years ago my mum was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma and had a gruelling 12-hour operation to remove it. This resulted in the loss of hearing in her left ear, facial palsy on the left hand side of her face and balance problems. Thanks to the support of BANA, she has gained her confidence back and made a fantastic recovery.

Hopefully this will also inspire others to aim high and take part in events to raise the profile of BANA.
