Neurological Information and Access Partnership (NIAP)

Improving access to services in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County

Neurological Information and Access Partnership

The Neurological Information and Access Partnership (NIAP) project was launched in May 2009 to ensure that people in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County with neurological conditions such as  Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Epilepsy and brain injury have clearer access to appropriate provision and services.  The project is a large working partnership of local authorities, statutory and voluntary organisations from across the region.

Rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy play a key role in the management of neurological conditions; it is recognised that people are happier and more able to live an independent life when they are capable and able to make choices for themselves.

Survey

During August and September 2009 two separate surveys were carried out in the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County areas.

The first survey was for health and social care professionals and the second, for people with neurological conditions, including Parkinson's, and their carers.

The surveys contained questions about access to services, barriers to services and ideas for improvements.

Findings

Findings from these surveys are being used to influence future service provision creating clearer pathways to neurological rehabilitation, information and advice.
