Danielle is 23 and a professional footballer, currently playing for Liverpool Ladies Football Club and has also represented England at Under 19 level. Football is her absolute passion and drive in life, with her ultimate goal being to represent England at Senior level.
Born in Preston, Danielle then achieved a First Class Honours Degree at the University of Central Lancashire in the field of Sports Science, and now lives in Liverpool as a full time athlete. As a student Danielle loved geography and if she was not a professional footballer then she would have pursued a career in Geology.
Danielle was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma in 2013 and underwent surgery to have the benign tumour removed in the summer of 2015, as scans revealed that it had grown faster than expected.
Danielle decided to write a very personal Blog describing her Acoustic Neuroma journey in order to document her progress, the highs and the lows, and ultimately to give an insight into the condition prior to and into her life post-surgery. She hopes to help others who are on the same journey and also raise awareness of the condition.
Not long after her surgery Danielle became an ambassador of BANA as she is so passionate about supporting the charity. Danielle explains “I’d never even heard of an acoustic neuroma (AN) before I was told that I had one, so for that reason, as well as the fact I couldn’t find anyone else in sport that had had one, I wanted to put myself out there and document my journey as I undergo my operation and embark on my return to fitness afterwards. If other people find themselves in a similar situation to me, be it a brain tumour or any other obstacle, I don’t want them to feel alone.”
